We’re only one month into 2018, and the divorces have already begun among the rich and famous! (Unsurprisingly, fame and fortune don’t buy you happiness!) Lena Dunham and her hubby, Jack Antonoff, are splitting up after 5 years together, and “Battlestar Galactica” star Tricia Helfer is calling it quits with her husband, Jonathan Marshall.
Jesse Williams of Grey’s Anatomy is enmeshed in a turbulent break up with his wife Minka Kelly (of Friday Night Lights), and Kevin Sussman of the Big Bang Theory has also filed for divorce. Even Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis have filed for divorce after 22 years together! And that’s just this month! But last year was a bloodbath for celebrity divorces. Here are a few of the biggest names to part ways in 2017…
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie:
Brad and Angelina, or “Brangelina” as the press delighted in calling them, were a Hollywood’s power couple for so long, that their divorce came as a huge surprise to fans! And unlike Jen and Ben’s parting, which was amicable, this one was a doozy! This parting of ways has been a vicious fight for months, primarily over the issue of their kids.
Their prenup stated that after the divorce is final, Angelina would get full custody of ALL of their children. However that agreement has been a source of a lot of fighting since the split. However this month saw a break in the battle, and media reports say that the couple have finally reached an agreement and expect to finalize their divorce next month.
Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga:
This was another high conflict divorce from the Hollywood arena, with Hudson claiming that her husband displayed “increasingly aggressive and threatening behavior”. She also said that he harassed her, and was both physically and mentally abusive.
Hudson sought a personal protective order against Otunga, and has also pursued sole custody of their 8-year-old son. Otunga’s attorney, on the other hand, has accused Hudson of using these false allegations to get the upper hand during the custody battle.
Chris Pratt and Anna Faris:
After eight years of marriage the celebrity couple are parting ways. They explained that they had tried hard to make their marriage work for a long time, and that they were very disappointed that it hadn’t worked out. As a result, the couple would be legally separating. However, legal separation is not the same as divorce, and the couple has yet to file for divorce!
In a statement made by Pratt on social media, he said, “Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.”
Laurence Fishburne and Gina Torres:
Fishburne and Torres actually split up in late 2016, but didn’t announce their intention to part ways until 2017 was almost over. They filed for divorce just a few short months ago, but have made it public that they intend to make the process as amiable as possible. In other words – no fights, no manipulations, and no false allegations!
In a statement made to the media, the couple explained their decision to keep it kind. “There are no bad guys here. Only a love story with a different ending than either one of us had expected. Happily, however, our family remains intact, and we will continue to raise our daughter together with love and joy and awe, as well as raise each other up with respect and love and the continued understanding that we’re in this together, if not side by side.”
